Javier Cercas (b. 1962 in Cáceres, Spain) is a writer and professor of Spanish literature at the University of Girona. He is the author of several books, using “historical memory” to focus on the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship. Among his works translated to English are Soldados de Salamina (Soldiers of Salamis), La velocidad de la luz (The Speed of Light), Anatomía de un instante (The Anatomy of a Moment), and Las leyes de la frontera (Outlaws). His latest, El impostor, tells the story of Enric Marco, a faked “hero” against Nazism and Franco. Cercas is also a frequent contributor to the Catalan edition of El país, and also translates English and Catalan literature into Spanish.
Javier Cercas’s trip is brought to you with the kind support of the Embassy of Spain in Beijing and People’s Literature Publishing House.
