Karen Ma

Karen Ma is a Chinese American author and journalist who spent her formative years in Hong Kong and Japan before going on to live in more than a half-dozen cities around the world, including Beijing and New York. She has worked for and contributed to publications such as NPR, Life Magazine, The Japan Times, The International Herald Tribute, and the South China Morning Post. She is the author of Excess Baggage, a semi-autobiographical novel loosely based on her family’s experiences as Chinese immigrants in Tokyo during the post-bubble years of the 1990s.
